What is the full form of CRPF

CRPF full form or Full form of CRPF or Long-form of CRPF or meaning of CRPF is or CRPF stands for Central Reserve Police Force. It is the largest Central Armed Police paramilitary Force in India. It is working under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India. Headquartered of CRPF is in New Delhi, India.  The primary goal of CRPF is to assist the state and union territory governments in maintaining law and order in their territories.

CRPF assist the state and union territory governments in Crowd and Riot Control, protection of VIPs and vital installations such as airports and powerhouses, to provide security during elections in sensitive areas, to counter Naxal and Insurgency operations, to conduct Rescue and Relief Operations during Natural Calamities, to support Armed forces during war times and to participate in UN Peace Keeping Mission, etc.

To train the young candidates who join the CRPF the government of India has established the CRPR academy. The Central Reserve Police Force recruits young individuals for the position of Assistant Sub Inspector.

With a total of 191 Battalions, a) 173 executive Battalions including b) 2 Mahila Battalions,  c ) 10 RAF Battalions, d ) 5 Signal Battalions and e ) 1 Special Duty Group the CRPF has grown into a big organization.

CRPF has 10 training Institutions, 35 Group Centers including a Signal Group Centre, 7Arms Workshop, 1 Static Workshop, 2 Mobile Workshops,  2 Central Weapon Store, 3 Base Hospitals. CRPF also have 100-bed composite Hospital with a backup of well-knit administrative set up covering the entire geography of the country.


A brief history of  CRPF

  • CRPF completed 60 years of glorious history.
  • On the 27th July'1939 CRPF came into existence as the Crown Representative's Police. Crown Representative's Police was established to protect the British people living in the sensitive states of India.
  • On 28th December 1949, the CRP was renamed CRPF under the CRPF Act.
  • Chinese soldiers attacked a small CRPF patrol on October 21, 1959. Out of the 20 CRPF soldiers, 10 soldiers sacrificed their lives for the country. October 21 is remembered as the Police Commemoration Day tp honor the martyrdom of these soldiers.
  • Most of the state police battalions in the year 1960 were merged with CRPF.
  • From the year of 1965 BSF is guarding the India-Pakistan Border but up to 1965 CRPF was guarding the India-Pakistan Border.
  • In the 1980s CRPF played an important role in curbing militant activities in Punjab as well as during the 1990s insurgency in Tripura.
  • To deal with riots a specialized unit of CRPF (Rapid Action Force) was established in 1992. 10 unattached battalions of CRPF are converted to Rapid Action Force.
  • To handle women agitations the first Mahila Battalion in CRPF, the 88(M) Bn was established in 1996.
  • In 2001 CRPF was designated as the premier internal security force of India. In same year Indian Parliament was attacked by terrorists. All the five terrorists involved in the attack were killed by CRPF.
  • To counter Naxal operations, a specialized unit of CRPF Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) is established in 2001.

What are the criteria for the CRPF exam?

Recruitment for Assistant Commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

To get recruitment for Assistant Commandants a standard exam is conducted for different forces, through one National level exam conducted by UPSC.

In Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) the hiring of Assistant Commandants is done annually for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

In the official notification released by UPSC The number of vacancies, posts, important dates, etc. are mentioned. The number of vacancies, important dates, posts depends on the need of the Force. UPSC reserves the right to change the provisional details at any point of time.

 

Qualifications

CRPF Eligibility criteria are a minimum of Intermediate/10+2/equivalent and are compulsory. For the post of Assistant Sub Inspector (Stenographer) in CRP, Typing 25-30 words per minute in Hindi, 35-40 words per minute in English and shorthand 80 words per minute is required.

Physical Standards

Male candidate

Height should be a minimum of 170 cms, (5 cms. Relaxation for Adivasis or Tribals) and Chest should be a minimum of 81 cms. ( for tribal’s 77-82cms ) A minimum of 5 cms. of expansion.

Women Candidates

Height should be a minimum of 157 cms. (154-155 cms. for Adivasis or Tribals)

Eyesight Near Vision (corrected vision) J.I (better eye), J.II (worse eye)

A Distant vision – better eye (corrected vision) - 6/6 or 6/9. Worse eye 6/12 or 6/9

Squint in eyes, Knock knees, Flat feet and physical defects ruled out

What is the CRPF Nationality Criteria?

CRPF Nationality Criteria is that all the candidates need to meet the criteria mentioned below. A candidate must be either one of the following:

A citizen of India, or

A subject of Nepal, or

A subject of Bhutan, or

A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

 A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar ), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.


Selection procedure of CRPF

There is a written examination of two hours and consists of four sections

Hindi/English language

General Intelligence

Clerical Aptitude

Numerical Ability

Typing and/or shorthand test

Personal interview

Physical Efficiency Test

Physical measurements

 

Those candidates who attain minimum qualifying marks in the Written Examination have to undergo shorthand/typing test and appear for the personality test or interview.

Candidates who clear the earlier rounds of the examination for them the Physical Efficiency test is conducted.  It consists of tests like one mile run in six and a half minutes etc. Bonus marks are awarded to those candidates who have possession of NCC ‘C’ Certificate or certificate of participation in a sports meet of national level.

Topics to study the CAPF exam include NCERT science books till class 10th, modern and ancient history, geography, basic mathematics, Reasoning, Data Interpretation, International Relations, Number Theory, Algebra, Quantitative Aptitude, and few others.

What are the Employment Opportunities for CRPF?

Because of the nature of the job and its policies, the employment opportunities for CRPF / central reserve police force are available within the CRPF itself.

After an initial period of training personal are given regular postings. They generally retire from the post of Asst. Commandant.

 

What are the types of Job Roles in (CRPF) ?

A number of job profiles in the central reserve police force. There the requirement of educational qualification and the eligibility criteria differs for all these respective CRPF job profiles.

Assistant Commandant:  is similar to Group ‘A’ service, they are responsible for supervisory functions and are responsible for various decision making. They are leading the troops in the field and also take care of the several other managerial functions peculiar to the service. CRPF has special features of an emergency force and due to the special features of an emergency the force that is pressed in aid to the civil power to perform multiple roles in extremely difficult situations, their role and performance are of great significance.

Sub Inspector: A Sub-Inspector is the direct link between the superior officers above him and the Constabulary below him. Hence, Sub-Inspector is one of the most Important Rank officers in the CRPF. To maintain Law and Order and to prevent crime is the prime job responsibility of the Sub Inspector of CRPF.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI):  After the Sub Inspector they are responsible for Platoon second in charge in CRPF. They are assigned the staff/administrative charge of the platoon.

Head Constable: Mainly Head Constables are employed to be in charge of general duty in police stations, as an officer in charge of armed reserves and outposts and guards.
